Our first meeting is THURSDAY OCTOBER 10 FROM 4:00-4:50 PM IN DUNCAN HALL 1049.
We will get together primarily to meet each other and to begin building a community of Rice minority scholars. We value your attendance at these events, not only for the benefits you will receive, but also so that you can support and mentoring to the more junior students in the program.
The RGEM program grew from a very successful AGEP (Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professorate) NSF program and is now completely supported by Rice University out of the Office of the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, where we have the full support of Dean Seiichi Matsuda. We do not anticipate to have more than three meetings but all will be of value to all the graduate students. Last year, Dean Matsuda was sufficiently gracious to allow us to give a financial incentive for the RGEM Underrepresented students that attended all our activities. We expect to have the same policy this year. So there is much value for attending our activities, so we hope to see you there.
One of our activities will be meeting in a small group with caring faculty to discuss your graduate school progress.
