2019 Alumni Tawana Robinson received her PhD in Chemistry under the direction of Professor Junghae Such. Her dissertation was entitled "Engineering Adeno-Associated Virus for Protease Targeted Gene Therapy and Immune Avoidance." Dr. Robinson is currently a Postdoctoral Associate at the Baylor College of Medicine.
2018 Alumni Kimberly Mendoza earned both her Masters (Fall 2017) and her PhD in Chemistry from Rice University (2018) and is currently a fourth year medical student at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Kimberly graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX in the Spring 2013. Kimberly’s research interests include traumatic brain injury, nanotechnology, parasitology and neurology. Kimberly served as an associate and mentor for students at Sid Richardson College. When not in the lab or on rounds in the hospital, she spends her time outdoors travelling, hiking and mountaineering with her dog, Atlas and cat, Apollo.
2017 Alumni Mario Bencomo received his PhD in Computational and Applied Mathematics (CAAM) from Rice University (2018). Mario received his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Applied Mathematics from the University of Texas at El Paso (2010).He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics in Providence, RI (2017). He is currently the Pfeiffer Postdoctoral Instructor of Applied Mathematics at Rice University (2019). He has participated as an enhancement speaker and panelist at the Tapia Camps since 2018. He was one of the founders and director of the Rice Mariachi (2014).
